The Regulations on Network Data Security Management Released

On 24th September, Prime Minister Li Qiang signed a State Council decree unveiling the Regulations on Network Data Security Management (the “Regulations”). The Regulations will take effect on January 1, 2025.
The Regulations include nine chapters and sixty-four articles, addressing key areas such as personal information protection, critical information security, management of cross-border data transfer, and network platform service providers’ obligations.
The Regulations provide clear guidelines for network data processing activities. The Regulations prohibit illegal network data processing and require data processors to establish robust cybersecurity management systems. The Regulations also outline rules for protecting personal information and require data processors to provide convenient methods for individuals.
The Regulations represent a significant step in China’s approach to governing network data security and supporting development of digital economy.
