Guidelines for Personal Information Cross-Border Processing Protection Requirements for the Greater Bay Area Released

On November 21, 2024, the Secretariat of the National Cybersecurity Standardization Technical Committee of China issued the Guidelines for Cybersecurity Standards Practice—Personal Information Cross-Border Processing Protection Requirements for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Mainland and Hong Kong)(“Guidelines”).
The Guidelines align with the Global Data Security Initiative and aims to ensure secure and orderly flow of personal information across borders within the Greater Bay Area. It outlines fundamental principles and requirements for personal information processors or recipients conducting cross-border data activities between Mainland China and Hong Kong through mutual recognition of security measures.
The Guidelines serve as a practical tool for organizations engaged in cross-border personal data handling, helping them comply with regulatory frameworks and uphold data protection standards. By fostering consistent and secure data processing practices, the Guidelines initiative strengthen collaboration within the Great Bay Area and advance regional integration in data governance.
This milestone reflects a significant step in enhancing cybersecurity, promoting innovation, and building a safer digital ecosystem in the Greater Bay Area.
