On March 2024, the National Energy Administration issued the Guiding Opinions on Energy Work (the “Guiding Opinions”), formulating a roadmap aimed at promoting the green and low-carbon transition of China's energy industry, promoting energy technology innovation while ensuring energy security.
According to the Guiding Opinions, in 2024, the total installed power generation capacity will reach approximately 3.17 billion kilowatts, with electricity generation reaching about 9.96 trillion kilowatt-hours. The Guiding Opinions also proposes to increase the proportion of non-fossil energy power generation installed capacity to about 55%, with the wind power and solar power generation accounting for more than 17% of the country's power generation.
To achieve those goals, the Guiding Opinions points out that high-quality development of the non-fossil energy sector should be vigorously promoted. This includes accelerating the construction of large-scale wind and solar power generation bases, promoting the development of photovoltaic power generation, accelerating distributed wind and photovoltaic power generation, and gradually promoting hydropower and nuclear power projects. With the implementation of the Guiding Opinions, China is expected to further accelerate the construction of new energy systems and ensure the safety and reliability of its energy supply.
